We Sense Something's Up with Jonah

Daddy Log Tuesday– April 1 - Thursday April 3
On Tuesday morning, Dr. Blayney showed a little concern that Jonah wasn’t quite as active as usual. He asked for some blood cultures and suggested that we keep an eye on him because of the possibility of infection. It turns out that he was on the ball because Jonah’s temperature was dropping and his white blood count was up. Since the cultures weren’t back yet, they put him on cloxacillin and gentamicin again to cover a broad spectrum. Other than being a bit lethargic and requiring 28-30% O2, he was pretty stable all afternoon and into the night.

On Wednesday, Jonah was reasonably stable. He was requiring a bit more O2 and his saturation was a bit less consistent but overall he was doing alright. His trend continued on Thursday and he would tolerate less and less handling. The smallest thing would affect his saturation and he was needing around 38-40% O2 and his saturation ranged from 82-100% from one second to the next. The nurses (Leanne on Wednesday and Janice on Thursday) assured us that it was just the handling and/or the sensor was causing the difficulty but we suspected differently. Dr. McMurry didn’t seem too concerned either.

Jonah was gaining some weight back though and was weighing in at around 700g, depending on what scale they used.
