A Story We Wrote for Abby

We wrote this story for Abby a couple of years ago. We've not actually shared it with her yet, but hope to make it into a little book to help her understand why her older brothers live in Heaven, that they are happy, and that someday she'll be able to play with them. This is the story...

"Josh and Jonah are best friends.
They live in a beautiful land where the sun always shines
And the streets are paved with real gold

Together they chase frogs and look for bugs
They play tag & hide-and-go-seek with all the other children
They run in the fields, stopping every once in a while to pick berries
They sing and jump and dance

They love sitting and listening to Noah talk about his BIG boat and all the animals
They know the sounds each animal makes.
Josh giggles as he watches Jonah pretend that he’s a monkey

One of their favourite things to do is sing for Jesus
They don’t always have the words to show how very much they love their Master
But they do their best
Jesus smiles and takes them in His arms
They feel very safe and happy with Jesus

Before they arrived in Heaven, they lived at the hospital with their Mummy & Daddy
They needed LOTS of help
Machines helped them to eat and breathe
They needed lots of medicine and special doctors to help them stay alive

Sometimes Mummy & Daddy couldn’t be right beside them, but they knew that they were thinking of them
They weren’t scared because Jesus and the angels kept them company & comforted them when they were sad or hurt
They loved Mummy and Daddy’s visits.
Mummy & Daddy would read them stories and hold their hands.
They knew that Mummy and Daddy were asking Jesus to help make them better
But one day, Mummy and Daddy told them each that it was okay to not fight to stay with them anymore
Josh and Jonah were very sick and could hear Jesus calling to them
They wanted to stay with Mummy & Daddy, but Jesus said it was time to go
Jesus said He had prepared a wonderful place for them where He lives
A place where there are no machines to keep them alive!
Angels came and carried each of the little tiny babies Home

Josh arrived in Heaven before Jonah
He missed his brother, but it seemed only a moment and Jonah was there.
Josh was happy to see his best friend again

Sometimes Josh and Jonah like to sit and watch what Mummy & Daddy are doing
Sometimes they see their Mummy and Daddy cry because they miss them so very much

Josh & Jonah especially like watching their little sister Abby
Jesus sent Abby to live with their Mummy & Daddy after they got to Heaven

Josh and Jonah know that they will get to play with Abby some day
Some day they will cuddle Mummy and hear her heart beat with theirs again
Some day they will play baseball with Daddy and show him how much they’ve been practising.
Some day they will all be a family again and worship the Master together
Josh and Jonah can hardly wait."
